Illinois Senate Unanimously Passes Video Franchise Reform

6/21/2007
CHICAGO – The Illinois Senate has unanimously passed the Cable & Video Competition Act, which if signed into law is designed to introduce new competition and cable choices to Illinois consumers.

New competition would force existing cable providers to improve customer service and keep rates competitive. The bill would give cable operators a four-hour window in which to provide service to customers. Otherwise, the consumer would be given account credits.

The bill is now being reviewed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. If signed into law, cable operators would have six months to adopt the new policies under this law.
