Doyle Supports Changes Made to Cable Bill

November 9, 2007

Gov. Jim Doyle says he doesn’t oppose the relatively minor changes made to a cable competition bill passed by the Senate.

Doyle still isn’t saying whether he will sign the bill. But the governor says he does think it will achieve its goal of increasing competition in the cable TV market.

Opponents have argued it doesn’t do enough to protect consumers. They point out that no new positions are added within the state agency charged with regulating the industry.

Doyle says if more positions are needed later, he hopes the bill’s backers will support paying for them.

The Assembly must approve of the changes before the bill heads to Doyle for his consideration. That could happen next month.
