Regulators approve form of cable franchise agreements

Lansing - State regulators today created a standardized form to be used for new statewide cable TV franchise agreements - the first step meant to open up Michigan to more cable competition.

The Michigan Public Service Commission approved the form, which cable providers can file with local governments.

It's the result of a new state law that established a uniform franchising system.

The law lets telecommunications giant AT&T quickly secure cable franchises for its new TV service without having to negotiate with every community where it wants to do business.
