Verizon hits the suburbs first

After Verizon announced Tuesday that it had reached franchise agreements with 100 municipalities in Pennsylvania for its fiber-optic cable-TV, the company defended its approach to offer the service to suburban communities first.

Verizon needs to start producing cable network maps

Verizon plans to bring cable competition to 316 New Jersey towns, promising choice, lower prices and better service. Sounds great. Unfortunately, Verizon's cable service application to the state Board of Public Utilities doesn't support its pro-consumer rhetoric. The information to back up its promises is missing.

Despite the fact that implementation of statewide-franchising rules is less than two months away, Verizon Communications is still negotiating local franchising agreements in California.

See the note at the bottom "Actual (throughput) speeds will vary." It's hard to imagine a press release from any other utility engaged in deregulatory legislation to so boldly assert that their service may be uneven and vary. Imagine a electric utility advertising that "brownouts may occur".
